There were many memorable parts in chapter 1. Some of them were funny, and some of them probably affect the rest of the book in different ways.
#1. The first memorable moment in chapter one was when they named Piggy. I found this kind of funny, but that's just me. I don't think that Piggy should be treated that way, but it is kind of funny. Some one is probably going to end up getting killed or hurt. What's so funny about this? The rest of the boys call him Piggy for the rest of the...period...
#2. The next moment that I thought was important was when the boys found the conch. They use this "sacred" conch to summon all of the boys around their side of the island. Also, when the boys have some sort of "meeting" they have some sort of order to get the boys to not speak when one is talking. One has to raise their hand to retrieve the conch, it is then that they will be able to share their thoughts or ideas.
I thought those were the most important ones because they both foreshadow things for further events in the novel. I'm not going to tell you why becayse that will ruin the rest of the book for you! =p

I feel bad for Piggy, but I also think it's his own fault. One lesson that I have learned is that if you don't like a nickname, don't tell people about it! People won't know about it unless you bring it up, and if they already know, they'll probably forget. I feel bad that he feels like they're making fun of him, but he definetly brought that one on himself.
I don't think Piggy was smart to tell Ralph--a STRANGER--his hated and loathed nickname. It was very stupid on Piggy's part. Ralph, however, should have respected Piggy's request.
I really want to know Piggy's real name! This is bothering me.
I too liked the conch. I've tried to get a sound out of one before, but it hasn't worked. It's actually quite difficult. Definately a memorable moment.
